'Promised Land' Story Code '68110' by Gillian Horvath and Tommy Thompson

22nd December 1971: Sam leaps into the body of Willie Walters, a masked gunman in the middle of a bank robbery with his two brothers, Neil and John. Things quickly go wrong: the bank staff advise they cannot open the safe without the manager present, and then the alarm goes off, alerting the town’s police chief. Sam is overjoyed when Al informs him that he has arrived in Elk Ridge, Indiana – Sam’s home town, at a time when his father is still alive. Al advises Sam that his mission is to save the Walters brothers, who are destined to be shot while making their escape from the botched robbery; the boys are robbing the bank for the exact amount of $37,898.13 because their farm has just been foreclosed, and that is the sum needed to repay the bank manager, Gus Vernon. Learning that Vernon is earning kickbacks by manipulating loans and then selling the repossessed land to property developers, Sam vows to expose the manager’s crooked scheme and save the Walters’ farm – but to Al’s dismay he also wants to find a way to stay Elk Ridge for the rest of his days…
